The irony sat there, obvious once I saw it. I laughed quietly and started over, this time without the timer. It reminded me that awareness doesn't always arrive dressed in insights—sometimes it shows up wearing a clown nose.

A friend messaged: "How do you stay so calm about everything?" I didn't have a good answer. The truth is I don't stay calm about everything. I just notice when I'm not calm a little sooner than I used to. There's a difference between being unshakable and simply watching yourself shake. One is a myth, the other is practice.

I made tea wrong today—let it steep too long while reading—and the bitterness was actually interesting. It made me pay attention differently. Usually I drink tea on autopilot, barely tasting it. This cup demanded my attention. Maybe mistakes are just invitations to wake up.

Here's a tiny experiment if you're willing: Before you go to sleep tonight, write down one thing you noticed today that you almost didn't notice. Not something important or meaningful—just something small that caught your attention for half a second. A shadow, a sound, someone's gesture, the weight of your phone in your hand. One detail. That's all.

What we practice grows. Not in dramatic transformations, but in quiet increments we barely perceive. And maybe that's better. Maybe real change doesn't announce itself.
