Woke up at 5:47 this morning—three minutes before the alarm. My body's finally syncing with the routine after two weeks of consistency. The air was cold enough that I could see my breath when I stepped outside for the warm-up jog.
Today's session:
- 10-minute dynamic warm-up
- 5×5 back squats at 185 lbs
- 3×8 Bulgarian split squats
- Core circuit (planks, dead bugs, pallof press)
- 15-minute cool-down stretch
Here's what I noticed: I've been pushing hard all week, but this morning my left knee felt slightly off during the first squat set. Not pain, just... awareness. Old me would've ignored it and pushed through. Today I dropped the weight by 20 pounds and focused on form. Finished all five sets with zero discomfort.
Sometimes discipline means knowing when to ease off.
After training, I made my usual breakfast—scrambled eggs, sweet potato, spinach—but this time I added a pinch of smoked paprika. Small change, but it made the whole meal feel different. Reminded me that even rigid routines need tiny experiments to stay sustainable.
My coach once told me, "The body adapts to stress, but it grows during rest." I'm finally understanding what that means. Recovery isn't the absence of discipline—it's part of the system. Tonight I'm scheduling an extra rest day this week, not because I'm tired, but because the program will be stronger for it.
Tomorrow: upper body push session, and I'm testing a new pre-workout timing—eating 90 minutes before instead of my usual 60. One variable at a time.
