Woke up at 5:30 AM to the sound of rain drumming against the window. For a split second, I thought about rolling over and skipping the morning run. That internal voice whispered just one rest day won't hurt. But I'd already scheduled yesterday as recovery—walking and stretching only. So I laced up, grabbed my waterproof jacket, and headed out into the drizzle.

The first mile was cold and uncomfortable. My legs felt heavy, probably still adapting to the higher volume I've been pushing this month. But around the 1.5-mile mark, something shifted. The rhythm steadied, my breathing evened out, and the rain stopped feeling like an obstacle. It became part of the experience—the slick pavement, the cool air, the quietness of the streets. I realized I'd been too focused on perfect conditions lately, waiting for ideal weather or ideal energy levels. Today reminded me that consistency means showing up even when it's not perfect.

Made a small mistake during my afternoon lift session: jumped straight into heavy squats without enough warm-up sets. Felt a twinge in my right hip on the second rep. Nothing serious, but enough to make me pause and reset. Dropped the weight, added two more warm-up sets, and worked back up gradually. The workout took ten minutes longer, but my hip felt solid throughout.

Here's what I learned: rushing the warm-up to "save time" always costs more time in the end—either through injury or having to back off mid-session. Patience in the prep pays off in the work sets.

Recovery note: foam rolled for 15 minutes tonight and hit 8 hours of sleep last night. Feeling the difference in how my body responds. Rest isn't weakness; it's strategy.

Tomorrow: tempo run, 5 miles, focus on controlled pace. No heroics, just consistent effort.
