Some magical floating storage in the sky? Not quite. The cloud is just someone else's computer. A very powerful, very distant computer that you're renting time on.

Before cloud computing became mainstream, if you wanted to run a website or an app, you had to buy physical servers, set them up in a room somewhere, keep them cool, patch security vulnerabilities, and pray they didn't crash during a traffic spike.
